Overview

Your library catalog search should begin at the catalog screen of your home library:

To duplicate your search in other Maine Info Net libraries,  Select the Maine Info Net Button on your screen. Once in Maine Info Net, you may select a different search mode. The following parts of the catalog are searchable in Maine Info Net:

Searching Tips

Searching is not case sensitive. It is not necessary to use capital letters when typing search terms.

Do not include articles at the beginning of a title search. For example, when searching for a book titled “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, ” enter the title in the following form:

decline and fall of  the roman empire

The Keyword search in Maine Info Net differs in several significant ways from the current CBB catalog Word search:

ADJACENCY

Multiple words are searched together as one phrase.

TRUNCATION

Words may be right-hand truncated using an asterisk.

Use a single asterisk * to truncate from 1-5 characters.

Use a double asterisk ** for open-ended truncation.

OPERATORS

Use "and" or "or" to specify multiple words in any field, any order.

Use "and not" to exclude words.

Parentheses group words together when using Boolean operators.

(annotated bibliography) and child*

 (alaska or canada) and  (adventure not vacation)

PROXIMITY

Use "near" to specify words close to each other, in any order.

Use "within #" to specify terms which occur within # words of each other in the record.

FIELDS

Specify fields to search, using field abbreviation.

Fields available for this database are a: (author), t: (title), s: (subject), and n: (note.)

(a:twain) and (t:huck*)

(a:united and a:states) and

(d:handicapped or d:disabled)

Printing, Saving and Exporting

Click on the "export" button to add an individual record to a saved list which then can be exported to email, downloaded to a disk, or printed.

To display your saved  list, click on "export saved lists" and select format and destination.

Print records using the print function of your individual browser.
